SENIOR HOMEOWNERS SHOULD TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THIS FREE MAINTENACE ASSISTANCE
Seniors who own their own home should consider the CARE Preventative Maintenance Program offered by the NWT Housing Corporation. The program provides a forgivable loan of up to $3000 for common preventative maintenance and minor repairs. Common eligible tasks include furnace servicing, chimney cleaning, hot water system maintenance, water tank cleaning and inspection of plumbing and electrical systems, smoke detectors and fire extinguishers.
Eligible households must have total household income of $97,000 or less and lived in the house as their principle residence for at least one year. The loan is forgiven after one year. Households may apply each year for assistance.
The NWT Housing Corporation is now accepting applications for work to be completed in the spring and summer of 2017. If you are interested, you should apply as soon as possible.
If your house requires more significant repairs, the NWT Housing Corporation also provides forgivable loans up to $100,000 under the CARE program.
